Old projects

Recover your old Premiere Pro projects

Got .prproj files from Premiere Pro CS3, CS4, CS5 or earlier? These old projects can no longer be opened in modern versions of Premiere Pro.

PR2XML converts them to XML (XMEML) format, which you can then import into DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or any modern editing software. Give your old projects a second life.

For old projects, we recommend exporting in XML (XMEML) format for the best compatibility.
Supports .prproj files from Premiere Pro 1.5 (2004) to the latest version
Preserves timelines, clips, and track layout
No need to install old versions of Premiere Pro
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about converting Premiere Pro® to DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and beyond.

Upload your .prproj file to PR2XML, pick the sequence you want to convert, then download the generated file as .drp (recommended for DaVinci) or .fcpxml. For .drp, open DaVinci Resolve and do File > Import > Timeline > your .drp file - the timeline opens directly with no manual relinking. Read the full 4-step import guide →

.drp is DaVinci Resolve's native format - exactly what DaVinci uses internally. It preserves adjustment layers, timeline markers with their colors, track locks, compound clips, retime/speed change, and the 1:1 track layout. .fcpxml is the industry-standard interchange format - also works with DaVinci, but through a translation layer that can drop a few details (notably native track locks). Our take: pick .drp if your target is DaVinci, .fcpxml if you also want the file to open in Final Cut Pro X.

PR2XML produces three formats covering the full ecosystem: .drp for DaVinci Resolve (native, direct import), .fcpxml 1.9 for Final Cut Pro X and DaVinci Resolve (Apple interchange), and .xml (XMEML) for Premiere Pro (re-import), Avid Media Composer, Vegas Pro and other legacy NLEs. The picker in the app auto-suggests the right format for the editor you selected.

Timelines, video and audio clips, transitions (cross dissolves), transform effects (position, scale, rotation), opacity, playback speed (retime), titles, nested sequences (compound clips), volume levels and audio keyframes are all preserved. The .drp format additionally preserves: native DaVinci adjustment layers, track locks, and timeline markers with their colors.

Analyzing your Premiere Pro® projects is completely free. You can view the contents of your sequences without paying. Downloading the converted FCPXML files requires a one-time purchase of €75, with no subscription.

PR2XML generates files in FCPXML 1.9 format, compatible with DaVinci Resolve 17 and later, as well as Final Cut Pro X. This format is the industry-standard interchange format for video timelines.

No. Only the .prproj project file is uploaded (it only contains your edit metadata). Your video, audio, and image files stay on your computer. The generated FCPXML references the same media files as your original project.

DaVinci Resolve offers professional-grade color grading, Fairlight audio tools, and Fusion for visual effects - all in a single application. Many editors migrate to take advantage of these integrated tools, better performance, or to avoid Adobe's subscription model.

PR2XML is compatible with .prproj files from Premiere Pro® CC 2018 and later. Older projects may need to be opened and re-saved in a recent version of Premiere Pro® before conversion.

Some Premiere Pro-specific effects (third-party plugins, certain complex native effects) don't have a direct equivalent in DaVinci Resolve. In that case, the timeline structure is preserved and unsupported effects are skipped, allowing you to recreate them manually in Resolve.

To convert a .prproj file to MP4, PR2XML provides the perfect workaround. Use our tool to convert your project data into an FCPXML file. You can then import this file into another editing software, like DaVinci Resolve (tutorial here) or Final Cut Pro X, and export your sequence as an MP4 from there. This is the best way to convertir prproj en mp4 if you no longer have access to Adobe Premiere Pro.

Normally, you need an active Adobe subscription to export xml from premiere to resolve. However, PR2XML allows you to bypass this. If you need to export xml premiere pro without opening premiere (without opening the software), simply upload your project to our premiere pro project to xml converter online and download the extracted timeline data.

Yes. Because PR2XML generates a standard FCPXML file, it functions perfectly as a premiere pro to fcp xml converter. This allows you to easily transfer your timeline with your cuts, transitions, and audio levels intact.

The most reliable method is using a premiere pro to davinci resolve xml workflow. By using our tool to convert premiere pro file to xml online, you can directly import the resulting FCPXML into Resolve (File > Import > Timeline) without losing your project's structure.

After converting your project, the FCPXML download is locked until you obtain the lifetime license. This allows us to offer unlimited access to future updates and ensures the sustainability of the service with a single payment.

Yes, your data is protected. All conversion happens via the browser. Your video, audio, and image files remain on your computer. The generated FCPXML file references the same media files as your original project.

You have 14 days from purchase to request a full refund, no questions asked. As soon as you have downloaded a converted file, the right of withdrawal is waived (digital content delivered with your explicit consent - EU Directive 2011/83). To request a refund, simply email support@pr2xml.com. Full details on our terms page.

PR2XML can generate three output formats: FCPXML 1.9 (optimized for DaVinci Resolve 17+), XML (XMEML) (the legacy FCP7 format, widely compatible with Premiere Pro, Avid, and other NLEs), and FCPXML compatible Final Cut Pro (with automatic remapping of unsupported file formats). You can also export both FCPXML + XML at once for the most complete workflow. See our detailed format comparison table.

PR2XML generates FCPXML and XML (XMEML) files compatible with DaVinci Resolve (17+), Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro (re-import), Avid Media Composer, and most other NLEs that support these standard formats. Simply select your target software during conversion and we'll generate the optimal format automatically.

Most effects from your timeline are preserved during conversion. However, some Premiere Pro-specific effects may not be directly transferable to DaVinci Resolve or other editing software. In such cases, the timeline structure is maintained and unsupported effects are skipped, allowing you to recreate them manually in Resolve.
